Working Inspiration

My friend took me to
Bare Escentuals.
I think of it as makeup for girlies who do not like makeup.
Anyway, it helped make me more confident in a new freelance job...yay.

This guy had a photo of a child on his truck & is blatantly using it to make people feel guilty & pay him to test their homes for radon. I damned him then ran him off the road.
So, you want to know about Dick, huh?
He doesn't participate in this blog anymore (like you didn't know that already).
We met at a long ago job.
We were both starting out & sort of bonded over that.
He made me laugh during some long, overworked days.
After I left that job we drifted apart.
I heard that he married a coworker (long story).
We got back in touch when he landed at another job I was working.
He was in the process of leaving that marriage.
Since then he married & divorced again & now is with someone else.
I don't think she likes this blog (she had problems with some
of the LONG AGO writings of Dick). But who knows,
maybe she doesn't read this anymore, especially since he
hasn't contributed here FOR YEARS.
Anyway, that is the only reason I probably won't go into
more detail about Dick.
Suffice it to say that he's a true friend of mine & always will be.
We don't talk much at all lately...but that's ok.
He's pretty non judgmental about my life & I try to do the same for him.
Crap, this turned out boring.
I'll write up a Dick story & post it next, deal?

Beauty

I walked by the Municipal Building in lower Manhattan last Friday.
Ever walk by something a million times & never know the amazing story that goes with it?
I'd always wondered what statue was up there.
I finally looked it up & came away with a interesting story.

The statue of Civic Fame on top of the Municipal Building was installed in 1913 & is a gilded figure designed by Adolph Weinman. Standing barefoot on a sphere, she wears a flowing dress & a crown of laurels to signify glory.
Audrey Munson(1891-1996) was an American model & actress, she was the model or inspiration for more than 15 statues in New York City including this one.

The model for "Civic Fame", Audrey Munson, had an even harder & more intense life. At the turn of the century she was a supermodel for sculptors and painters. In some sense that yielded a much more permanent record of her than most of today's supermodels will enjoy as there are literally dozens of important sculptures of her in New York City & around the world bearing her likeness. When the movies came about, she became an actress & entered history books as the first known woman to star in a movie fully naked.
Here's
the Wikipedia article (if you want to know more...like geekhead me).
This woman had the most unusual & tragic life. From the height of fame...through a court case involving a doctor who killed his wife to be with her...to entering a mental asylum at the age of 39 where she died at the age of 104.

Ack

I was fooling around at a red light
& pulled this site up on my phone.
I starting laughing so hard...I don't know...
I just thought it was screwy looking on my phone.

Macy's

Macy's knows how to do up Christmas.

The Christmas windows glowed as people passed by.
See that store on the right?
Conway's...I'd never ventured in until the other day.
Gotta say...if you're looking for the filthiest store in Midtown...this is it.
& I don't mean that in a good way either.

Best Dumplings Ever

The truck comes around once a week.

If you think something from a truck can't be heavenly...you'd be wrong.

Dumplings & a salad.

OK...I got nothing else...
I just wanted to post photos of dumplings.

Why not.

30 Rock
A couple of weeks ago
I past filming for 30 Rock.
As I stood on the sidewalk across the street
The Southern woman next to me
asked..."what are they filming?"
"30 Rock", I said.
"Dirty Rock?", she asked.
Idiot, I thought.

Christmas themed show about the interns striking?

Kenneth the intern.

Tracy Morgan.

These 2 big guys play Tracy's bodyguards (& they are huge).

Tootsies

It was so nice out today. I sat on a fountain at lunch & enjoyed the day. Some guy walked by & said, "nice toes." I'm still laughing.

Always Have Your Camera

A couple of weeks ago
I went for a walk down Wall Street
& who did I see?
The Trumpster & looky here
at who was making a crazy face in the limo.
Trump was being all nicey-nice to the cop.
"Be good to my people", he said.
Nice guy?
Look at the lady in black on the right.
Think she thought much of The Donald?
I love that no one made a big deal about seeing a famous person on the street.
(except the girl with the camera).

Lunch

On my way to lunch the other day
this is what I saw.
So damn cute.
These girlies were having so much fun posing for photos here.

Totally made my day.

Bored in Line

I had 2 items & the line snaked to the left & was taking FOREVER.
I had to do something with my time on line...
So, out the camera came.

This store has everything from flimsy bikinis to overpowering cologne.

The line still wasn't moving & I didn't even feel a little bit like I was at the beach.

...or in California for that matter.
But I did appreciate the amazing chandeliers & the palm fronds.

This was the image on the shopping bag of the woman in front of me.

Reade Street

The idea today was to walk down one street randomly
& see what would strike my fancy photography wise.
Langdon's florist got to me first.
I was swept away by all the greenery out front
& the fire escape's shadows overhead.

Something about that sign looked interesting to me.

I liked all the intersecting lines going off into the distance.

Cool reflections on the car.

Another pattern & I always love scrolly designs.

Last night’s commute home (inspired by J)

It’s great when you get out of work with enough time to see the sunset.
If I had to title this it would be…
Racing home to pee.

Water Lily
I love all sorts of museums because you can never be sure what's around the next corner.

Nenuphar (French for water lily) was built at Andrew Calder's workshop in France for the 1968 opening of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It is one of the artist's stabiles, or fixed sculptures, and the lyrical shapes cut from sheet steel convey the same gentle, graceful movement as his mobiles. Six silhouettes evoke the dark reflections of the water lily's flowering stalk and curling leaves. In fact, Calder conjured the entire intricate world of a windswept pond, varying the tendrils to suggest the shadowy presence of birds and fish among the lilies.

OK...I sort of get it now.

The cool thing about sculpture to me is how it looks in it's surroundings.
