Tres Leches Cake

Maybe I've been watching too much Cooking Channel lately

But this cake is stuck in my head.

I'm not even really a milk person...but damn, that looks so good.

Eat It

This dress is made out of asparagus & cabbage.

I'd wear it...then eat it.

Best Dumplings Ever

The truck comes around once a week.

If you think something from a truck can't be heavenly...you'd be wrong.

Dumplings & a salad.

OK...I got nothing else...

I just wanted to post photos of dumplings.

Why not.

Photos of the Day

My lunch was so pretty I had to photograph it,

Avocado & cucumber wrapped in seaweed & rice with rolled in sesame seeds.

So tasty.

Hey, don't make that face, have you tried it?

Lately I've been eating lots of ginger (I love the color too).

Dessert Shots

I didn't mean to be away from here for so long.

Can you see why I was distracted?

My skinny girliefriend is having a good time fattening me up.

It is just so much fun to sit at a table filled with girlies

Chatting & doing dessert shots.

We made the waitress show us all the flavors

Then we proceeded to make her explain how these culinary orgasms were created.

I got the DOUBLE CHOCOLATE shot of joy.

For the 5 seconds it took me to hoover this baby down

My body nearly burst with ecstasy.

Another Day...Another Walk

So much activity at the WTC site.

See the square building (Deutsche Bank) in the middle?

It's going to cost more to take down (floor by floor)

than it cost to build.

The old next to the new.

My destination for the trip.

I love this store.

I mean look at the place...it just makes me smile.

The color, the freshness...ahhhh, makes me think of spring.

An orgy of apples.

I had to get rough with one of 'em.

This one did a lovely striptease to make me smile.

I hit the holy grail of honey today.

Lavender honey is the best honey in my humble opinion.

I search for it whatever new place I find myself.

It's hard to find.

The bees that make it pollinate only lavender flowers so it's extra sweet.

Imagine my surprise when I found it in a specialty food mart

only an hour from where I live.

THEN I find one of my new favorite things.

Chrystallized ginger...it's sweetness with a spicy kick.

I guess I have a thing for hard to find foods.

What kind of out of the ordinary foods hit your sweet spots?

What a marvelously unusual looking lunch.

I'm trying my best to catch the waiter's eye.

He's spraying some kind of a foul cleaner on the table 2 down from me.

Looks like nothing will be unwrapped til he stops fumigating the area.

He sees me cringing.

We make a connection.

I feel the love.

The crop dusting stops & the villagers sing.

So far I'm 2 for 2 in my efforts to post a photo a day for November.

I baked a honey cake today.

Winnie the Pooh would have loved it.

Honey Cake

150 g butter
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup honey
1 2/3 cups flour
1 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh rosemary
2 eggs, beaten
Line and grease a 8.5 in/22 cm spring-form tin. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter, sugar, honey, and 1 tbsp water, stirring one or twice until the sugar is dissolved and the butter melted. Leave to cool for 10-15 mins. Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C.

Sift flour, baking powder, and cinnamon into a bowl. Add the eggs, and the butter mixture. Mix until smooth. Pour into cake tin and bake 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick/knife comes out clean. Leave in tin to cool.

Lemon Icing

2 cups confectioners sugar
100 g softened butter
1 tsp lemon zest
2 tbsp lemon juice
Sift sugar into a bowl. Add butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, and 1 tbsp water and beat until smooth.

Was today a long ass day...or what?

(a photo of the 2nd best scones I ever had in my life...the best ones were eaten just a few days before this photo was taken...oooooh...were they all so good).

Lately...

One of my favorite things about Mondays is...

The farmer's market outside the train station.

It's sort of like

emerging from the bowels of the Earth

to find fruits & veggies & all sorts of baked goods

laid out at my feet.

(when I get there it's too dark to get any good photos

believe me...I want to).

Oh...& then there's the Irish scone lady.

I seriously want her to move into my kitchen on a temporary basis

I want her to stay as long as it takes to teach me to bake these glorious things.

"don't overwork the dough"

she says that's the secret to a good scone.

"what?

show me...

please."

I need to wake up to fresh scones that someone with a charming accent created just for me.

Did you have a nice weekend?

(I couldn't wait to eat my leftovers).

On Saturday I met a friend for lunch.

We went to
P.F.Chang's.

if you've never heard of it

check it out...it's got a great menu.

(The Northern style spareribs will either put hair on your chest...
or take it off...depending on your inclination.)

We sat at the bar & the bartender made us something tasty.

I had some drink involving plum wine.

It went straight to my soul & brightened my day.

We shared a huge bowl of soup & some dumplings.

This friend is the sort of person that is so easy to be with

you know the kind?

We sat at the bar with our knees touching & we both almost didn't notice.

Some people are all over their personal space...

...as in...don't even think of invading it.

Gotta say, I am sometimes like that.

(depends who you're with...totally)

but not with my girlie on Saturday.

She's the type of person

who'll grab you by the hand to lead you where she wants you to go

or stand next to you in line & lean her arm into yours.

I'm the sort who'll touch you on the arm (or penis...if you have one)

to help make my point.

Some people don't take kindly to touching of any kind.

What do you think their problem is anyway?

Pineapple-Mango Salsa

* 2 large mangoes, ripe but still firm, peeled
* 1 pineapple, peeled and cored
* 1 medium red onion, peeled
* 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
* 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

I'm food obsessed again...but then again...who isn't?

This was soooo good.

The cafeteria at work made this salsa.

So stinking good.

I plopped it on top of my baby spinach salad

& threw in some chicken for good measure.

Delicious.

Yum

I've been blogging disabled lately.

First the beach took me away (which was awesome by the way)

Many photos to come.

Then, a nasty stomach virus that also blew my socks off

in a bad way.

But at the very least, I lost the weight I gained at the beach.

(my sis has it now...poor thing.)

Had the most delicious fudgey fondue at a dessert cafe that also had views of the bay.

My girlies & I had cappuccinos (for them) & tea for me

& fruit & marshmellows dipped in chocolate.

No words were needed...we just dipped & savored.

I mean it...I could have lived at this place forever.

Shake It, Baby

I'll admit it.

This sounded yucky when I 1st heard about it.

but...being the avocado freak that I am...

I relented & tried it.

OMG (I hate when people use these 3 letters in a row...but it seems to fit here.)

It was so very tasty:

Vietnamese Avocado Shake

* 1 medium avocado
* 1/4 cup condensed milk
* 1-2 tablespoon sugar (to taste)
* 1 cup ice

Throw everything in a blender and process until consistency is smooth.

are you brave enough to try it?

Also, is there any man out there that will actually eat an avocado?

Guacamole maybe?

Breakfast of Champions

My body was craving junk for breakfast.

This is what I ended up with...

Instead of my usual yogurt & granola.

Yep, it was garbage & alcohol in the early AM.

Take my advice...

Never eat anything that says..."Guess the Flavor"

Just don't do it.

You just won't be tickled.
